Plusieurs traités manquent au présent recueil. Je n'ai pu et dû donner que ceux que les puissances contractantes avaient consenti à communiquer au public.

La continuation du présent volume aura lieu sans interruption, elle devra s'étendre au moins jusqu'à la fin de 1816 et sera suivie d'une table chronologique et alphabétique, que, par ce motif, je me suis dispensé d'ajouter au présent volume dans lequel d'ailleurs l'ordre chronologique n'a été que rarement interrompu.

The consequences of the Treaty of Tilsit, between Russia and France, unfolding themselves more and more, in such a manner as to threaten Sweden with a speedy invasion, for the purpose of forcing her to accede to the French system; and his Swedish Majesty finding himself, therefore, under the necessity of bringing forward, to resist its effects, a greater force than he has at his ordinary disposal, his Britannick Majesty, animated with the constant desire of contributing to the defence and security of his Ally, and of supporting him by wery means in a war undertaken for the mutual interests of both States, has determined to give to his Swedish Majesty an immediate aid in money, as being the most prompt and efficacious, to be paid from time to time, at fixed pe-riods; and their Majesties having judged it expedient, that a formal Convention with regard to their reciprocal intentions in this respect should be concluded, they have, for this purpose, named and authorised their respective Plenipotentiaries, that is to say in the name and on the part of his Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great-Britain and Ireland, Edward Thornton, Esq., his Envoy extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to his Majesty the King of Sweden; and in the name and on the part of his Majesty the King of Sweden, the Baron d'Ehrenheim, President of his Chancery, and Commander of his Ordre of the Polar Star, who, aster having communicated to each other their respective fullpowers, have agreed upon the following Articles:

Les suites du traité de Tilsit entre la Russie et la France se manifestant de plus en plus, de manière qu'elles menacent la Suède d'une invasion subite dans le dessein de la forcer à acceder au système français, et Sa Majesté Suèdoise se trouvant par là dans la necessité de deployer des forces plus considerables pour s'opposer à ses effets qu'elle n'a ordinairement à sa disposition, Sa Majesté Britannique, animée du desir constant de contribuer à la defense et à la sureté de son Allié et de le soutenir par tous les moyens dans une guerre entreprise pour l'interêt mutuel des deux Etats, s'est determinée à fournir à Sa Majesté Suédoise un secours immédiat en argent comme le moyen le plus prompt et le plus efficace, payable de tems en tems à des époques fixes, et Leurs Majestés ayant jugé à propos de signer sur ce point une convention formelle avec égard à leurs intentions reciproques, ont à cet effet nommé et autorisé leurs Plénipotentiaires respectifs, savoir au nom et de la part de Sa Majesté le Roi du Royaume uni de la Grande-Bretagne et d'Irlande, le Sieur Edouard Thornton Son Envoyé extraordinaire et Ministre Plénipotentiaire près S. M. le Roi de Suède, et au nom et de la part de Sa Majesté le Roi de Suède le Baron d'Ehrenheim, President de Sa Chancellerie et Commandeur de son ordre de l'etoile polaire, lesquels après s'être communiqué reciproquement leurs pleinspouvoirs respectifs, sont convenus de ce qui suit:

Art. I. His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, engages that there shall be fraid to his Majesty the King of Sweden the sum of Twelve Hundred Thousand Pounds Sterling, in equal instalments of One Hundred Thousand Pounds Sterling. each per month, beginning with the month of January of the present year inclusively, and to continue successively in the course of each month, the first of which instalment shall be paid on the ratification of the present Convention by his Swedish Majesty.

Art. II. His Majesty the King of Sweden engages on his part to employ the said sum in putting into motion and Keeping on a respectable establishment all his Land Forces, and such part as shall be necessary of his Fleets, and particularly his Flotilla, in order to oppose the most effectual resistance to the common enemies.

Art. III. Their said Majesties moreover engage to conclude no peace, or truce, or convention of neutrality with the enemy, but in concert and by mutual agreement.

Art. IV. The present Convention shall be ratified by the two High Contracting parties, and its ratification shall be exchanged at London within the space of six weeks, after the signature of the said Convention, or sooner if it can be done.

In faith whereof, we the undersigned Plenipotentiaries of their said Majesties have signed the present Convention, and have caused the seal of our arms to be affixed thereto.

Done at Stockholm, the 8th. of February, in the Year of Redemption One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eight.
