IN preparing the following pages an attempt has been made to embody in a convenient form the most important of those English Statutes, which, passed before the establishment of the Colonies, form to-day part of our Law, and such subsequent enactments as have had, through their direct or indirect adoption, the greatest influence on the case law of this country. The more part of these Statutes, or portions of Statutes, bear on the subject of the holding and transfer of property; the remainder will be found to be some of the most important of those which relate to the subjects of crimes, evidence, and procedure. While this collection. collection has been made primarily as a reference-book for the use of members of the Harvard Law School, it is hoped that others may find it of service in their studies.
