"Spirits, from other materials
Spirits or strong waters
of all sorts, viz: For every gallon of such spirits or strong waters, of any strength not ex- ceeding the strength of Sykes's hydrometer, and so in proportion for any greater or less than strength the strength of proof, (the
duty charged on the strength of spirita im- ported in bottles in to one-tenth of a gallon,)| and for any greater or less quantity than a gallon, viz: $5 48 (nett duty) per gallon, not being sweetened spirits, or spirits mixed with any article so that the degree of the strength thereof cannot be ex- actly ascertained by such hydrometer; $7 28 per gallon (nett du- ty) on spirits, cordials, or strong waters, re- spectively, sweetened or mixed with any ar- ticle so that the degree of the strength thereof cannot be exactly as- certained by such hy- drometer; $7 28 per gallon (nett duty) on perfumed spirits, in- cluding all spirits of this description, when no doubt exists that the same is intended for such use.
