The English Church-its Irish limb cut off-shows signs of breaking fast. Its sects increase-no two priests think the same. Disbelief and infidelity rage in its midst, and its most learned members, and even its very bishops, are tainted with them.

On the Continent, rationalism prevails and increases, and the Goddess of Reason has well nigh usurped the place which of right belongs to the God of Inspiration.

In America, again, strange doctrines prevail. Mormons, Freelovers, Shakers, and the like, cast ridicule upon everything sacred. Spiritualism with its false prophets is the belief of millions, and Mammon, in the shape of the almighty dollar, is the paramount idol of worship.

The Eastern nations, slowly learning to disbelieve their ancient religions, gain no other in exchange. Scepticism prevails, and wherever we look, man's faith grows faint and weak.

Then if we glance at the domestic affairs of the different nations which compose our globe, it will be seen how strong a current has set in, agitating them violently in one direction.

It is democracy which thus, like a resistless tide, is permitted to sweep everything before it.

The divine right of kings has been long a thing of the past. The divine right of the masses is the modern programme, which, in these latter days, looms before our vision.

Absolute equality is the dream of the age, and in the mean time, until it is procurable, republicanism, veiled or unveiled, prevails. All these surely are startling signs and symptoms in our ancient world, and seem to portend some important crisis is at hand.

Nor, when we reflect to how vast an extent man has been permitted to penetrate into the secrets of nature, does it seem conceivable that progress at a similar ratio can long continue. The tree of knowledge has been already vigorously shaken: there must be some limit to the fruit with which it is loaded.

These, then, are some of the indications, which, combined, constitute "the handwriting upon the wall," to which we would draw attention. It is not for us more specifically to endeavour to interpret them.

Manufactured from the finest Wheat (the staple food of Europeans), and containing in perfect
purity all the essential constituents of a perfect food.

From the "Lancet," 2nd April, 1870.

The fine ground flour of the Entire Wheat is proved, therefore, to be altogether the most de-
sirable for general consumption, and we hope it will take the place of the purely starchy com--
pounds now in use, both in the case of children and of adults.

From Professor ATTFIELD, F.C.S., Professor of Practical Chemistry to the Pharmaceutical
Society of Great Britain, &c.

Its richness in gluten or flesh-forming material, and earthy phosphates or bone and teeth-
forming substance, show it to be a very valuable food, especially for children. It is incom-
parably superior to Arrowroot, Corn Flour, and other forms of starch which contribute but little
to the formation of bone or muscle.

From J. LANGDON DOWN, Esq., M.D., F.R.C.P., Physician to the London Hospital.

I have given your "Entire Wheat Flour" an extended trial, and with results which have com-
pletely convinced me of its extreme dietetic value for invalids, children, and many of the wasting
diseases to which the latter are liable.
I have found it invaluable in rickets, struma,

and developmental diseases of various kinds. It should, in my judgment, take the place of the
starches, which, under various names, are so largely and imprudently relied on as food.

THE

PHOTO-CHROMO-LITH.

A NEW AND IMPROVED PROCESS

FOR THE

REPRODUCTION OF MANUSCRIPTS, BOOKS, DRAWINGS, MAPS, PLANS, PATTERNS OF TEXTILE FABRICS, AND DESIGNS OF ALL KINDS.

THE PHOTO-CHROMO-LITH PROCESS either produces Works in Fac-simile or in an Enlarged or Reduced Form, and is employed for Commercial Purposes in the Reproduction of Autograph Letters, Architects' Drawings, Plans, Specifications, &c.; and for the Reproduction of parts-voice or orchestral-of MS. and other Music.

OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.

DAILY NEWS.

"Old books as well as old prints can be reproduced by this process, and the ponderous quarto of a century 220 transformed, as if by magic, into the most portable of duodecimos. In addition to all the above advantages, the inventor of this new process of photo-lithography claims for his process the crowning merit of great comparative cheapness and despatch."

THE ATHENÆUM.

"Tam o' Shanter-a Tale,' and 'The Lament of Mary, Queen of Scots,' by Robert Burns. These are fac-similes by the photo-chromolith process, from the poet's autographs, and have the great advantage over ordinary fac-similes in being absolutely perfect-not subject to ordinary errors of reproduction and transcription-errors which are inevitable. These are literally, fac-similes; every dot, spot and mark of the dragging of the pen on the rather rough paper Burns used,-every blot, and even the signs, as it seems to us, that he used sand to absorb the superflous ink ere turning s leaf, so that the MS. has a curious granulated appearance,-are here. The text of Tam o' Shanter' is fine, bold and clear-a complete transcript; doubtless, that which was sent to the printer. Letter-press copies of the poems are attached, and a brief Introduction by Mr. Moy Thomas."

THE EXAMINER.

"It is an astounding proof of the progress of the age, that we may not only purchase the works of a favourite poet st an almost nominal sum in the regular and precise form of Roman type, but may even have a faithful copy of the original manuscript, with its blots, smudges, mistakes, and corrections. This process, by which photography and litho graphy are made to combine in the manifold reproduction of fac-similes, is described as very cheap and easy of execution. Effective it certainly is; and we should think the publishers would find it profitable to extend its employment in manufacturing copies of old manuscripts valued by antiquaries and Art-students."

THE STANDARD.

"The edition of Burn's most popular poem, Tam O'Shanter,' is an exact fac-simile of the author's manuscript, and will be received with pleasure, both by those who are interested in autographs and the many who love the poems of the Scotch peasant poet; and it will, there is little doubt, serve as a valuable advertisement to the publishers, who are the proprietors of the Photo-Chromolith Process. Of the perfect success of that process, as applied to Tam O'Shanter," there can be no question. Every erasure, blot, and tittle are as fresh as when they came from the poet's pen. The advantages claimed for it are that by its use fac-simile copies of drawings or manuscripts can be taken with the greatest certainty and accuracy; that the process is at once rapid and cheap; and that the original copy is in no way damaged."

ILLUSTRATED TIMES.

"An exceedingly well-executed Photo-Chromo-Lith of Burns's 'Tam o' Shanter' and the Lament of Mary, Queen of Scots,' in which every line, dot, or erasure appears as the manuscript came from the poet's hand. This publication is the result of a new application of photography, or rather of a combination of photography and lithography, and is unerringly accurate, and, therefore, exceedingly interesting to all who take an interest in autographs."

NOTES AND QUERIES.

'Judging from the specimen we have seen there can be but little question as to the success of the process."

"It is certainly a curiously faithful transcript."
