lent for the purpose of study to Schools of Art and to Art Classes controlled by a Local Authority having a room wholly devoted to instruction in Art. Plaster casts, photographs, etc., are lent to County Councils and Urban District Councils for the use of classes under their control, the Council in each case being responsible for the distribution and safe return of the examples.

Applications for paintings and drawings must be made on Form 668, for books on Form 273, and for examples of students' works on Form 159.

Application for the loan of other works of Art, and for lantern slides, must be made by letter.

Applications for loans of Scientific Apparatus must be made on Form 802 before the 1st October. For conditions on which these loans are issued (see page 127).

FREE ADMISSIONS TO MUSEUMS AND LIBRARIES.

LXXXIV. Tickets of admission to the Victoria and Albert Museum including the Science and Art Libraries-are given to Donors and lenders to the Museum, persons who are recognised by the Board as qualified to teach, students at various public institutions, and persons engaged in professions or trades connected with the decorative arts, or with engineering, manufacturing, or other technical pursuits, upon satisfactory evidence that they are employed in or studying for such careers.

Application must be made by letter to the Secretary, Board of Education, South Kensington, and in the case of Students through the Secretary or Teacher of their School.

NOTE I.-A deduction of half-a-crown is made from the next payment to the school for every day's delay in sending in a Form, Return, or Works.

NOTE II. The Syllabuses are under revision and will be issued at a subsequent date, together with Lists of Apparatus suitable for use in Science classes, and of Appliances, Examples, etc., suggested as suitable for use in Schools of Art and Art Classes.

Form for nomination of Managers of Science and Art Schools and Classes by an Organisation which has been accepted, in accordance with the provisions of Clause VII. of the Directory, as responsible for the Science and Art instruction within its area.

An Organisation which has been accepted, under the provisions of Clause VII. of the Directory, as responsible for the Science and Art instruction within its area, may adopt or constitute such local managing bodies, consisting of not less than five members, with such duties and responsibilities, as it thinks fit.

When such Managers have been appointed, this form must be filled in and signed by the Clerk or Secretary to the Organisation. Any changes in the constitution of the managing body must be notified to the Board of Education, South Kensington, immediately on their occurrence.

An Organisation which has been accepted, under the provisions of Clause VII. of the Directory, as responsible for the Science and Art instruction within its area, may appoint fit and proper persons as Superintendents of Examinations.

When such Superintendents of Examinations have been appointed, this Form must be filled in and signed by the Clerk or Secretary to the Organisation.

Rules for the Appointment of Managers of Science and Art Schools and Classes, in a locality outside the area for which an organisation under Clause VII. of the Art Directory has been recognised.

Managers may be-

SECTION I.

a. The County Council or County Borough Council or a Committee thereof acting under the Technical Instruction Acts.

b. A_Committee to which a Local Authority under the Technical Instruction Act, 1889, has delegated all its powers under § 1 (2) of that Act.

c. The governing body of a school (not being a Public Elementary School) under the Endowed Schools Acts.

SECTION II.

A Committee formed (a) for the special purpose of superintending and managing a school or class to be aided by grants from the Board, or (b) for conducting examinations of classes not aided by grants from the Board.

A. INSTRUCTIONS RESPECTING THE APPOINTMENT OF MANAGERS UNDER SECTION I. ABOVE.

When a body (as defined in Section I. above) desires recognition as a Committee of Managers, it should intimate, through its Clerk or Secretary, its willingness to become responsible to the Board of Education for the conduct, in accordance with the rules laid down by the Board, of Science and Art classes.

The Clerk or Secretary will thereupon fill up and transmit to the Board the Application Form No. 1 comprised in Form 634.

N.B. Should such a body when recognized by the Board desire to delegate its powers of control to Local Managers responsible to it, the
