CALL FOR MEETING.

N. E. COTTON MANUFACTURERS' ASSOCIATION,

BOSTON, April 1, 1874.

DEAR SIR:-The stated annual meeting of the Association will be held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boylston Street (between Berkeley and Clarendon Streets), Boston, on Wednesday, April 15, at 10 o'clock, A.M., for the choice of officers for the ensuing year, and the transaction of such other business as may properly come before it.

After the conclusion of business, the first topic in order for discussion is that postponed from the last meeting, viz: “The best method of preparing cotton for the card," with especial reference to such appliances as may be attached to cards, to aid in cleaning the cotton.

By invitation of the Board of Government, EDWARD ATKINSON, ESQ., of Boston, will then present photo-micrographs of various fibres used in textile fabrics, especially of cotton from the bale, and from the several machines used in opening, carding, and partially twisting the fibres. He proposes to suggest some reasons why the question, "What happens to cotton when it is overworked?" may only be solved, and the remedy found, by giving attention to the form and structure of the fibre, and from a full understanding of the reason why cotton spins.

The Board presumes that this subject will call out differing expressions of opinions from members, and hopes that all will be ready to offer what facts their own observations have noted in regard to it.

A prompt and full attendance is cordially invited.

By order of the Board of Government,

AMBROSE EASTMAN,

Secretary.
