New-England Cotton Manufacturers' Association.

BOSTON, July 1, 1868.

DEAR SIR

The stated semi-annual meeting of the Association will be held at their Rooms, No. 53 Washington Street, Boston, on Wednesday, July 15, at ten o'clock, A. M.

In accordance with the general wish expressed at the annual meeting in January, the Board of Government have decided to invite a further discussion of the Papers heretofore submitted and published, rather than to call for Reports upon new Topics. They therefore urge the attention of members to those subjects, in order to a full comparison of views. And as it is their desire to publish a complete record of the proccedings of the coming meeting, they will be especially gratified if gentlemen who propose to take part will, where it is practicable, prepare written memoranda, which will enable them to do justice to themselves and to the subject, both before the meeting and in the subsequent Report.

Should time allow, the following Topics, suggested by different members, will be also brought up at the meeting:

1st. Card Clothing.

2d. The Distribution of Oils in the Mills.

3d. The Marking of Webs at the Dresser.

The Board take occasion to renew their invitation to Treasurers, Agents, and Managers of Cotton Mills in New-England who have not yet joined the Association, to unite with them, by communicating with the Secretary.

By order of the Board of Government.

AMBROSE EASTMAN, Secretary.

BOSTON, Wednesday, July 15, 1868.

Pursuant to the foregoing notice, the stated semi-annual meeting of the Association was this day held at their office. About fifty members were present, the excessive heat of the day preventing a larger attendance.

The President in the Chair.

The reading of the record of the last meeting was waived, as the proceedings were in print.

Upon nomination of various members, the following gentlemem were elected to membership in the Association, by unan

A letter was read from David Gillis, Esq., stating that he had engaged in other business, and was no longer a Cotton Manufacturer, and he therefore desired to retire from membership.

His withdrawal was accepted.

Mr. A. D. LOCKWOOD, of Lewiston, Me., proposed the following amendmennt to the By-Laws:

That the By-Laws be so amended as to substitute April and October for January and July, as the months for the annual and semi-annual meetings of the Association; the annual meeting to be held in April.

Under the By-Laws the proposed amendment went over to the next meeting.

The regular business of the meeting being concluded, the Association took up the subjects proposed for discussion in the call for the meeting.
