Statistics on the Distribution of Oil in the Mills-Concluded.

System of using Oil.

Can in each room, delivered by one man in each room to the operatives.

Thompson's, Oil at regular times, except the Looms. These, and most of the other ma-

chinery, once a day. Patent Steps, once in four weeks, &c.
Thompson's, Oil mixed in tanks, then de ered by man in charge to overseers or second
made by Draper. hands, and by them locked up. They deliver to the operatives, in the oil

cans, at stated periods. A great difference is found in the quantities re-
turned to overseers, when cans are exchanged. Those who keep machines

in best order commonly use the least oil.

Stated times for oiling, but varied with season and rate of speed.
Stated times. In Spinning and Carding Room, one man oils in each.

Sperm used only on Spindles and Rolls In Weaving Room the third hand oils Looms each day, and Shafting once a month. In the other rooms, one

hand oils in each. Keeper of Oil Room, once a week, delivers to section hands the oil for each

department. They fill and distribute the small oilers at regular times.
