Por instrucciones de mi Gobierno, tengo la honra de suplicar á Usted se sirva recabar, si no hay inconveniente para ello, una órden ú órdenes de quien corresponda, como ya hizo anteriormente en casos parecidos, á fin de que se suspenda nesos actos, por estar pendiente el arreglo ó tratado de arbitraje que, como Usted sabe, pondrá fin á la citada cuestión del Chamizal.

With reference to previous correspondence in re El Chamizal, I have the honor to inform you that a number of persons who occupy lots and dwellings on the disputed land at El Paso, Texas, are complaining that a renewed effort is made to eject them from the said lots and dwellings.

By direction of my Government, I have the honor to beg that, in the absence of any objection thereto, you may be pleased to have the order or orders issued from the proper quarter, as has been previously done in like cases, to suspend all such proceedings, in view of the pendency of the agreement or treaty of arbitration which, as you are aware, is to close this Chamizal question.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 7th instant, in which, with reference to "El Chamizal" question, you ask, by direction of your Government, the issuance by the proper authority of an order to suspend ejection proceedings, of which certain persons occupying lots and dwellings in the Chamizal district are again complaining.

In reply I have the honor to advise you that the matter has been referred to the Attorney General for investigation.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note No. 116, of the 7th instant, in which, with reference to “El Chamizal” question you request that orders be issued by the proper authority for the suspension of ejectment proceedings, of which certain persons occupying lots and dwellings in the Chamizal district are again complaining.

In reply I have the honor to say that the Department would be pleased if you would specify the location of the lands from which, as you are informed, Mexican claimants are being ejected.

It is particularly desired that the Department be advised whether or not the lands from which the complainants allege that they are being ejected lie south of the line of 1852, as shown on page 97 of Volume 1 of the proceedings of the International Boundary Commission.

Excelentísimo señor:

Con referencia á los antecedentes en el asunto de El Chamizal, y especialmente á la nota del Departamento del digno cargo de usted número 205, fechada el 11 del mes próximo pasado, tengo la honra de suplicar á usted, por instrucciones especiales de mi Gobierno que, si no hay inconveniente para ello, se sirva dictar sus órdenes, á fin de que por el conducto debido, se suspenda la orden expedida para el trece del actual, por el Juez Cuarto en El Paso 6 Laredo, y todo procedimiento de cualquiera otra autoridad judicial ó administrativa, para el lanzamiento de ciudadanos mexicanos ocupantes de la parte de El Chamizal reclamada por Cotton, pues hoy está en litigio internacional.

En vista de que la orden á que hago referencia se debe hacer efectiva el trece de este mes, me tomo la libertad de suplicar á usted que las medidas que se dicten para suspender los procedimientos de lanzamiento á que aludo, se trasmitan y lleven á efecto por la vía telegráfica.

Me es grato, Excelentísimo señor, reiterar á usted las seguridades de mi más alta y distinguida consideración.

With reference to previous correspondence in the El Chamizal matter and, especially, to the note from the Department in your worthy charge numbered 205 and dated the 11th of last month, I have the honor, under special instructions of my Government to beg that, in the absence of any objection, you will issue your orders to the end that the order issued for the thirteenth of this month by Judge Cuarto at El Paso or Laredo be suspended, through the proper channel, as well as any proceeding of any other authority, judicial or executive, toward the ejection of Mexican citizens occupants of that part of El Chamizal which is claimed by Cotton, as this is now the subject of international litigation.

As the order herein referred to is to be carried out on the 13th of this month, I take the liberty of asking that such measures as may be ordered for a stay of the ejectment proceedings here referred to, be transmitted and carried out by telegraph.

In answer to your note No. 172, of the 10th instant, in which, referring to previous correspondence in the matter of the threatened eviction of Mexican citizens from the disputed Chamizal tract, you request that the order of eviction be suspended, as the matter is now the subject of international litigation, I have the honor to inform you that the Department immediately telegraphed to the Department of Justice, requesting that Department to direct its

local representative to make an investigation and take all appropriate steps in the premises.

The Department is in receipt of the following telegram, in reply, dated the 11th instant, from the Attorney General:

"Your telegram of this date relative to matter of ejectment of Mexican citizens from disputed Chamizal tract is received and the United States Attorney at Waco, Texas, has been instructed as requested."

Por instrucciones especiales de mi Gobierno tengo la honra de reiterar, con referencia al asunto de El Chamizal, la necesidad de que por parte de las autoridades judiciales ó administrativas de El Paso, Texas, se suspenda todo procedimiento de desocupación ó lanzamiento contra los mexicanos que ocupan los citados terrenos de El Chamizal, que en la actualidad están en litigio internacional.

Manifiesto á usted también que, según me anuncia el señor Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de mi país, muy pronto recibiré nuevas instrucciones de mi Gobierno para el definitivo y violento arreglo de ese delicado asunto.

Me es grato reiterar á usted, Excelentísimo señor, las seguridades de mi más alta y distinguida consideración.
