Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the Pension increased. pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of William Montgomery, late second lieutenant Company C, Second Regiment New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry, and pay him a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month in lieu of that he is now receiving.

CHAP. 488.-An Act For the relief of the First Baptist Church of Cartersville, Georgia

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed, out of any moneys in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to pay to the trustees or other legal representatives of said church, or their successors in office, in trust for the use and benefit of the First Baptist Church of Cartersville, Georgia, the sum of five thousand dollars, in full for all the damages claimed by said church, or any person heretofore or hereafter claiming to represent said church, for brick and all other building materials taken and used by the Army of the United States during the late war; and the acceptance by said trustees of this sum shall be in full satisfaction of all claims of every name and nature for the said use or occupation of said church or the appropriation and use of the materials of the same, or in any manner arising or growing out of the use thereof.

CHAP. 489.-An Act For the relief of Elisha A. Goodwin, executor of the estate of Alexander W. Goodwin.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United Elisha A. Goodwin. States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the tain registered bonds Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to issue duplicates to Elisha A. Goodwin, executor of the estate of Alexander W. Goodwin, late of Vanceboro, Maine, in lieu of United States four per centum registered bonds, funded loan of nineteen hundred and seven, Acts of Congress approved July fourteenth, eighteen hundred and seventy, and January twentieth, eighteen hundred and seventyone, numbered seventy-one thousand and eleven to seventy-one thousand and eighteen, inclusive, of the denomination of one hundred dollars each, amounting to eight hundred dollars, said bonds alleged to have been lost or stolen. Also to issue to the said Elisha A. Goodwin duplicates in lieu of United States four per centum coupon bonds of the funded loan of nineteen hundred and seven, Acts of Congress approved July fourteenth, eighteen hundred and seventy, and January twentieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-one, numbered one hundred and forty-eight thousand three hundred and fifty-six and one hundred and forty-eight thousand three hundred and fifty-seven of the denomination of one thousand dollars each; fifty-six thousand nine hundred and sixty-one to fifty-six thousand nine hundred and sixtysix, inclusive, of the denomination of five hundred dollars each; sixtysix thousand six hundred and eighty-one and sixty-six thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine, one hundred and sixty-eight thousand seven hundred and sixty-eight to one hundred and sixty-eight thousand seven hundred and eighty-seven, inclusive, of the denomination of one hundred dollars, amounting to seven thousand two hundred dollars: Provided, That the said Elisha A. Goodwin shall first file in the Treasury a bond in a penal sum equal to the amount of the missing registered bonds and the interest that would accrue thereon until the same shall become due or payable; and a bond in a penal sum equal to double the amount of the missing coupon bonds and the interest that would accrue thereon until the same shall become due or payable, with good and sufficient sureties to be approved by the Secretary of the Treasury, with conditions to indemnify and save harmless the United States from any claim on account of the said lost or stolen bonds. CHAP. 490.—An Act For the relief of Paymaster James E. Tolfree, United States Navy.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to James E. Tolfree, paymaster, United States Navy, the sum of four thousand dollars, said sum to be a payment in full for all losses of both Government and personal property incurred by him by reason of the destruction by fire of the Windsor House, at Yokohama, Japan, on the morning of February eighth, eighteen hundred and eighty-six.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the

pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Susan Kennedy, widow of Thomas Kennedy, late of Captain Beauchamp's company, Alabama Volunteers, Creek Indian war, and pay her a pension at the rate of eight dollars per month. Approved, February 5, 1903.

Smith.
