of the said 'Ottoman Order in Council, 1910," and shall specify the areas within which such suspension shall operate: Now, therefore, I, George Nathaniel, Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, K.G., &c., &c., &c., His Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, hereby give notice that the operation of so much of "The Ottoman Order in Council, 1910," as relates to the power and jurisdiction of Courts is suspended in the following areas, namely:

Irak.

Palestine.

Eastern Thrace, as comprised within the Turco-Bulgarian frontier of 1914 and the eastern limit of the present Greek occupation.

NOTIFICATION of Termination of the International Treaty of November 2, 1907, respecting the Independence and Integrity of Norway.-London, September 5, 1922.*

A NOTE was addressed to His Majesty's Acting Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs by the Norwegian Chargé d'Affaires in London on the 17th July last, stating that the Norwegian Government considered that the Treaty between Great Britain, France, Germany, Norway and Russia respecting the Independence and Integrity of Norway, signed at Christiania on the 2nd November, 1907, had lapsed as far as Great Britain, France and Norway were concerned, as it was incompatible with the terms of the Covenant of the League of Nations, and that, as regards Germany and Russia, the Treaty had lost its principal basis owing to events which have occurred since it was signed.

2. A Note was addressed by the Marquess Curzon of Kedleston to the Norwegian Chargé d'Affaires on the 22nd ultimo, stating that His Majesty's Government agreed to consider the Treaty to be no longer in force.

BRITISH ORDER IN COUNCIL under "The Copyright Act, 1911," regulating Copyright Relations with the Free City of Danzig.-London, October 13, 1922.*

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 13th day of October, 1922.

PRESENT: THE KING'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS His Majesty, by virtue of the authority conferred on him by "The Copyright Act, 1911," and having regard to the provisions of the revised Berne Copyright Convention of 1908, was pleased to make an Order in Council, dated the 24th day of June, 1912 (hereinafter called "the Principal Order "), extending the protection of the said Act to certain classes of works to which protection is guaranteed by the said Convention;

And whereas the Free City of Danzig has acceeded to the said Convention:

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice of his Privy Council, and by virtue of the authority conferred upon him by "The Copyright Act, 1911," is pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

1. The Principal Order shall extend to the Free City of Danzig as if it were amongst the foreign countries of the Copyright Union therein named, subject to the following modifications :

(a.) The provisions of Article 2, proviso (iii) (a) shall apply as if the Free City of Danzig were included amongst the foreign countries named in those provisions.

(b.) In the application of the provisions of Article 3 of the Principal Order to works of which the country of origin is the Free City of Danzig, the date of this Order shall be substituted for the commencement of the Act and for the commencement of the Principal Order.

(c.) In the application to such works of Sections 1 (2) (d) and 19 of “The Copyright Act, 1911," the date of this Order shall be substituted for the commencement of the Act in

Sections 19 (7) and 19 (8), wherever that expression occurs, and the 24th day of June, 1922, for the passing of the Act.

(d.) In the application to such works of the provisions of Section 24 of "The Copyright Act, 1911," the date of this Order shall be substituted for the commencement of the Act, wherever that expression occurs in Sub-Section (1) (a), and for the 26th July, 1910, in Sub-Section (1) (b).

2. This Order may be cited as "The Berne Copyright Convention (Free City of Danzig) Order, 1922."

And the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury are to give the necessary orders accordingly.

BRITISH ORDER IN COUNCIL amending "The Persian Coast and Islands (Amendment) Order in Council, 1912," -London, October 13, 1922.*

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 13th day of October, 1922.

PRESENT THE KING'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by treaty, grant, usage, sufferance and other lawful means, His Majesty the King has power and jurisdiction within the dominions of His Majesty the Shah of Persia ;

And whereas the exercise of such jurisdiction is at present regulated by "The Persian Order in Council, 1889," and "The Persian Coast and Islands Order in Council, 1907 ''‡ (S. R. and O., No. 382 (1907)), as amended by "The Persian Coast and Islands (Amendment) Order in Council, 1912 "§ (S. R. and O., No. 535 (1912)), and “The Persian Coast and Islands (Amendment) Order in Council, 1922 "|| (S. R. and O., No. 766 (1922));

And whereas it is desirable further to define the limits within which 'The Persian Coast and Islands Order in Council, 1907," applies:

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers in this behalf, by "The Foreiga Jurisdiction Act, 1890 (53 & 54 Vict., c. 37), or otherwise in His Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of his Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

and Islands (Amendment) Order in Council, 1912," is hereby repealed, and the following paragraph is substituted therefor:

"The term the maritime provinces of Persia ' means the provinces of Khuzistan, Fars, Laristan, Kerman, Persian Baluchistan, and those districts by custom and for the time being included under the authority of the Persian Governor of the Gulf ports."

2. This Order may be cited as "The Persian Coast and Islands (Amendment No. 2) Order in Council, 1922," and shall be read as one with The Persian Coast and Islands Order in Council, 1907," "The Persian Coast and Islands (Amendment) Order in Council, 1912," and "The Persian Coast and Islands (Amendment) Order in Council, 1922."

And the Most Honourable the Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, K.G., and the Right Honourable the Viscount Peel, G.B.E., two of His Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, are to give the necessary directions herein as to them may respectively appertain.

PRESENT THE KING'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS on the 20th day of January, 1914, an International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, and for purposes incidental thereto, was duly entered into by His Majesty and the other Signatory Powers more especially referred to and set out in the said Convention;

And whereas a Statute 4 & 5 Geo. V, c. 50, intituled "An Act to make such amendments of the law relating to Merchant Shipping as are necessary or expedient to give effect to an International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea" (being the Convention above referred to) was passed on the 10th day of August, 1914, the short title of which is “The Merchant Shipping (Convention) Act, 1914 ’’†;

And whereas by Section 29, Sub-Section (5), of the said Act it was provided as follows:

"This Act shall come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1915:

Provided that His Majesty may, by Order in Council, from time to time postpone the coming into operation of this Act for such period, not exceeding on any occasion of postponement one year, as may be specified in the Order ";

And whereas by divers Orders in Council the coming into operation of the said Act has been from time to time postponed, and now stands postponed, by virtue of an Order in Council of the 20th day of June, 1922,* until the 1st day of January 1923;

And whereas His Majesty deems it expedient that the provisions of the said Act should be further postponed:

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice of his Privy Council, in pursuance of the powers vested in him by the above-recited provision and of all other powers him thereunto enabling, doth order, and it is hereby ordered, that the provisions of "The Merchant Shipping (Convention) Act, 1914," shall be postponed from coming into operation until the 1st day of July, 1923.

WE, the Rule Committee of the Supreme Court, hereby make the following Rules:

Order XI.

1. The following Rules shall be inserted in Order XI of the Rules of the Supreme Court, 1883, and numbered therein as Rules 11, 12 and 13 respectively:

11. Where leave is given in a civil or commercial cause or matter to serve any writ of summons, originating summons, notice, or other document in France or in any other foreign country with which a Convention in that behalf has been or shall be made, the following procedure shall, subject to any special provisions contained in the Convention, be adopted

"(1.) The party bespeaking such service shall file in the Central Office a request in the Form No. 10вв in Part I of Appendix A, which form may be varied as may be necessary * Page 154.
