In compliance with a resolution of the Senate of the 16th instant, requesting the President of the United States to cause to be laid before the Senate the original order for building the barracks at Sackett's Harbor, together with all communications between the War Department and Major General Brown relative thereto, and the amount of public moneys expended thereon," I now transmit a report from the Secretary of War, with the papers enclosed, which contain the information desired. The Secretary of War, to whom the resolution of the Senate of the 16th instant was referred, "requesting the President of the United States to cause to be laid before the Senate the original order for building the barracks at Sackett's Harbor, together with all communications between the War Department and Major General Brown relative thereto, and the amount of public moneys expended thereon," has the honor of transmitting copies and extracts of all the letters on record and on file in the War Department, in relation to the building of the barracks at Sackett's Harbor, marked A and B, together with statements of the Second and Third Auditors, of the moneys expended thereon, marked C and D, which comprehend the information requested.
