with love from his sister VILLAGE AND HEADLAND. A MoBlythie Robuison BY VARIOUS WRITERS. Aug: 1894 EDITED BY ROBERT FISHER, M.A., VICAR OF SEWERBY. HULL: WILLIAM ANDREWS & CO., THE HULL PRESS. : 1894. HARVARD COLLEGE LIBRARY OCT 13 1916 SUBSCRIPTION OF 1916 HULL: WILLIAM ANDREWS AND CO., THE HULL PRESS. PREFACE. picture the past adds so greatly to the enjoy ment of the present that an effort has been made, in the following pages, to enable the Visitor to Flamborough to know something of its history, both. as to men and things. Considerable space has also been given to Natural History. For the Study of Nature holds a foremost place amongst useful and healthy recreations, and local information is generally welcome. The List of Birds is the result of many years of observation, and will, it is hoped, be of permanent value to ornithologists. The other Chapters on Natural Science are intended not only to serve as local notes to experts, but also to be of use to beginners, and possibly to lead some to take an interest in Nature who have not done so hitherto. In a book to which so many have contributed, it is as well to state that each writer is alone responsible for his own contribution. Those, however, who treat of the same subject, will be found in the main to agree. It is the hope of the writers that a good sale, particularly of the edition at 3/6 a copy, will result in a substantial addition to the Fund for re-building the Tower of Flamborough Church, in aid of which the book is published. But they also hope that the book will be interesting to Residents, and will help many Visitors to spend a pleasant holiday at Flamborough. R. F. SEWERBY, Yorkshire, June 22nd, 1894. |
