Employees of Railroads, December
1917, Grouped by Monthly Rates
of Pay

This statement is compiled from the returns of Class 1 Railroads and certain Switching and Terminal Companies, made to the Commission in response to its request. The rates of pay are for the standard month discharged of all compensation for overtime or extra service, and constitute a table of wages, not of earnings, for the month named. The railroads included in this summary will be found listed in Appendix 1X. For comparative purposes the returns are separately presented for each

District, and for the United States as a whole.
