CHAPTER IV.

PRAYER.

1. Every morning your first thought should be of the goodness of God, who has watched over you while you have been sleeping. Every evening your last thought before sleeping should be of the love of God, who has blessed you with loving parents, friends, country, home, food and clothing.

2. From morning till night God cares for you, keeps you and blesses you. Whatever you have comes from Him. Everything around you, from the grass to the sun and stars, has been created by Him for your good. Ought you not love God for His goodness to you?

3. Sometimes children are naughty, say unkind words and think bad thoughts. Sometimes you make up your mind to do things which are wicked, thinking that no one can see you. God sees and knows all you think and do. Is it fair or nice of you to behave so badly, when God has been so good to you? Ought you not say to God that you are ashamed of yourself? Ought you not promise to be better in the future?

4. If someone were to give you a lovely present, you would certainly say, "Thank you!" Now, God is always giving you presents. The rain and the snow,

the fruits and the flowers, the wheat and the corn, the rivers and the oceans, your dear, good parents and relatives, all are gifts from God. Ought you not thank Him for the many things He has so lovingly given you?

5. Although God gives you so much, there are still some things you feel you want. When you are unhappy you want comfort. When you are in trouble you want help. When you are sorry for doing wrong you want to feel that you are forgiven. At such times do you not think it will do you good to speak with God?

6. To Thank God, to praise God, to tell God how sorry you are for doing wrong, to ask God for help, each is a kind of prayer.

7. Although you cannot see God, yet He sees you. He will listen to your prayers whenever you pray with all your heart and soul. He will answer your prayers, and though He may not give you what you ask for, He will always send you what is best for you.

9. You can and should pray in your home, but you ought to go to Temple, to pray there with your friends. You should make a habit of going to the
