By Mr. Whitehead: The petition of Eliza J. White, of Rockbridge County, Virginia for relief, to the Committee on War-Claims.

The Speaker having proceeded, as the regular order of business, to call the committees for reports,

Mr. Townsend, from the Committee on the Public Lands, to which was referred the bill of the Senate (S. 1009) to enable the Commissioner of Agriculture to make a special distribution of seeds, reported the same without amendment.

Ordered, That it be committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union.

Mr. Townsend, from the same committee, to which was referred the bill of the House (H. R. 4119) authorizing the Commissioner of the General Land-Office to grant a patent for certain land in the Territory of Arizona, reported the same with an amendment.

The House having proceeded to its consideration,
The said amendment was agreed to.

Ordered, That the bill be engrossed and read a third time.

Being engrossed, it was accordingly read the third time and passed. Ordered, That the Clerk request the concurrence of the Senate therein. Mr. Bradley, from the same committee, reported a bill (H. R. 4155) granting to the Wasatch and Jordan Valley Railroad Company the right of way through the public lands; which was read a first and second time, committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union, and ordered to be printed.

Mr. Phillips, from the same committee, to which was referred the bill of the Senate (S. 650) explanatory of the resolution entitled "A resolution for the relief of settlers upon the Absentee Shawnee lands in Kansas," approved April 7, 1869, reported the same without amendment. The House having proceeded to its consideration,

Ordered, That it be read a third time.

It was accordingly read the third time and passed.
Ordered, That the Clerk acquaint the Senate therewith.

Mr. Phillips, from the same committee, to which was referred the bill of the House (H. R. 2540) for the appointment of a commissioner for inquiry into the destruction of forests and into the measures necessary for the preservation of timber, reported the same without amendment. The House having proceeded to its consideration,

Ordered, That it be committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union.

Mr. Orr, from the same committee, reported a bill (H. R. 4162) granting the right of way and depot-grounds to the Oregon Central Pacific Railway Company through the public lands of the United States, from Winnemucca, in the State of Nevada, to the Columbia River, via Portland, in the State of Oregon; which was read a first and second time. The House having proceeded to its consideration,

Amendments submitted by Mr. Charles W. Willard and Mr. Holman were severally agreed to.

Ordered, That the bill be engrossed and read a third time.

It was accordingly read the third time and passed.

Ordered, That the Clerk request the concurrence of the Senate therein. On motion of Mr. Townsend, by unanimous consent,

Ordered, That Tuesday, January 12, after the morning hour, be set apart for the consideration of all bills that have been reported from the Committee on the Public Lands granting the right of way and land for depots and station-houses to railway companies, and all other bills of the same kind that may be reported to the House at or before that time.

Mr. Benjamin F. Butler moved that the House proceed to the consideration of business on the Speaker's table.

Mr. Wheeler moved that the House resolve itself into the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union.

On motion of Mr. Wheeler,

So the motion was agreed to; and The House accordingly resolved itself into the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union; and after some time spent therein the Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. James Wilson reported that the committee, having had under consideration the bill of the House No. 3820, (Army appropriations,) had come to no resolution thereon.

Mr. Randall moved that the House take a recess for one hour.

Mr. Holman moved, at 2 o'clock and 10 minutes p. m., that the House adjourn.
