IN

THE BOOK BUYER BIBLIOGRAPHIES.

First Editions of

John Greenleaf Whittier.

N the May number of THE BOOK BUYER appears the first instalment of a Bibliography of First Editions of JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER, compiled by Mr. EDWARD HALE BIERSTADT, of the Grolier Club.

No detailed and descriptive bibliography of this writer has been published heretofore, and the compiler has endeavored to make his work complete, and as fully descriptive as is possible. The number of first editions of Whittier is large, and the description of the title-pages peculiarly interesting.

The subject of bibliography is one which engages the attention of a considerable number of collectors of books, yet very little satisfac- ! tory work of this kind has been done in America. It is the purpose of the publishers of THE BOOK BUYER in future to make contributions to this department of literary study, which they believe will be found convenient standards of accurate information upon the subject.

The Whittier Bibliography will be completed in four instalments. The publishers expect to follow it with bibliographies of James Russell Lowell, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Robert Louis Stevenson, and other authors whose works are of interest to collectors.

The May Number will be sent to any address on receipt of Ten Cents.

SUBSCRIPTION PRICE, $1.00 A YEAR.
