1. Board of Trade Standards.

ORDER IN COUNCIL LEGALISING WEIGHTS OF TWENTY, TEN AND FIVE, POUNDS AS BOARD OF TRADE STANDARDS.

1906. No. 387.

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 11th day
of May, 1906.
PRESENT:

The King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

Whereas by Section 8 of "The Weights and Measures Act, 1878," it is provided that the Board of Trade shall from time to time cause such new denominations of Standards being either equivalent to or multiples or aliquot parts of the imperial weights and measures ascertained by the said Act, as appear to them to be required in addition to those mentioned in the Second Schedule to the said Act, to be made and duly verified, and that those new denominations of Standards, when approved by His Majesty in Council, shall be Board of Trade Standards in like manner as if they were mentioned in the said Schedule:

And whereas it has been made to appear to the Board of Trade that new denominations of Standard weights of twenty pounds, ten pounds, and five pounds, being multiples of the imperial weight of one pound ascertained by the said Act, are required, and they have caused the same to be made and duly verified and deposited in their custody:

And whereas it has also been made to appear that such standard twenty pounds, ten pounds, and five pounds weights should be of a prescribed form:

Now therefore, His Majesty, by virtue of the power vested in Him by the said Act, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, is pleased to approve of the twenty pounds, ten pounds, and five pounds weights as new denominations of Standards, and doth direct that the same shall be of the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and be Board of Trade Standards in like manner as if they were mentioned in the Second Schedule to "The Weights and Measures Act, 1878." PRESENT,

The King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

Whereas by Section 8 of "The Weights and Measures Act, 1878," it is amongst other things enacted that the Board of Trade shall from time to time cause such new denominations of standards, being either equivalent to or multiples or aliquot parts of the imperial weights and measures ascertained by the said Act, as appear to them to be required in addition to those mentioned in the Second Schedule to the said Act to be made and duly verified, and that those new denominations of standards, when, approved by His Majesty in Council, shall be Board of Trade standards in like manner as if they were mentioned in the said schedule:

And whereas it has been made to appear to the Board of Trade that the several new denominations of standard measures of length named in the schedule hereto annexed, being multiples or aliquot parts of imperial measures of length ascertained by the said Act, are required, and they have caused the same to be made and duly verified and deposited in their custody:

Now, Therefore, His Majesty, by virtue of the power vested in Him by the said Act, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, is pleased to approve of the several new denominations. of standard measures of length specified in the schedule hereto and doth direct that the same shall be Board of Trade standards in like manner as if they were mentioned in the Second Schedule to "The Weights and Measures Act, 1878."

2. Fees for Verification.

ORDER IN COUNCIL SPECIFYING FEES TO BE TAKEN ON THE VERIFICATION AND STAMPING OF CERTAIN WEIGHTS BY INSPECTORS OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

1906. No. 388.

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 11th day
of May, 1906.
PRESENT:

The King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council. Whereas by Section 13 of "The Weights and Measures Act, 1889," it is enacted, that if the Board of Trade represent to His Majesty that it would be expedient to fix fees to be paid on the verification and stamping of weights, measures, or weighing instruments, in cases other than those specified in the First Schedule to the said Act, it shall be lawful for His Majesty, by Order in Council, from time to time to direct such fees to be paid:

And whereas the Board of Trade have represented to His Majesty that it would be expedient to fix the fees to be taken in respect of the verification and stamping by Inspectors of Weights and Measures of weights of twenty pounds, ten pounds, and five pounds mentioned in the Schedule hereto :

And whereas it has been made to appear that the fees specified in the Schedule hereto are reasonable and proper:

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by virtue of the power vested in Him by the said Act, by and with the advice of His Privy Council is pleased to direct that the fees specified in the Schedule hereto shall be taken by the Inspectors of Weights and Measures on the verification and stamping of each such weight of twenty pounds, ten pounds, and five pounds respectively. ADDENDA.

Promissory Oaths.

ORDERS IN COUNCIL DIRECTING THE MANNER IN WHICH THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE AND THE OFFICIAL OATH AS TO ENGLAND SHALL BE TENDERED AND TAKEN BY CERTAIN OFFICERS.

At the Court at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, the 9th day of
August, 1872.
PRESENT,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

Whereas it is provided by the Promissory Oaths Act, 1868,* that the Oath of Allegiance, and the official Oath therein described, shall be tendered to and taken by, each of the Officers named in the first part of the Schedule annexed to the said Act, in the manner in that behalf mentioned in the said first part of the said Schedule.

And whereas it is deemed expedient that the Oaths in question when tendered to the Lord Chancellor, the Lord President of the Council, the Lord Privy Seal, the First Lord of the Treasury, and Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State,† should continue to be so tendered and taken in the presence of Her Majesty in Council, and that those Oaths should be tendered to and taken by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in the presence of Her Majesty alone, but that the Oaths to be tendered to, and taken by, the other Officers in England described in the first part of the Schedule to the said Act should, in future be tendered to and taken by those Officers in the presence of the Lord Chancellor or the Lord President of the Council or one of Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State.

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of the said Act, and by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, Her Majesty is pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, that the Oath of Allegiance and the Official Oath required in the said Act to be tendered to, and taken by, the following Officers,+ shall be so tendered and taken, in the presence of the Lord Chancellor, or the Lord President of the Council, or one of Her
