That the Senate resume the consideration of the bill, entitled "An act for the relief of sundry revolutionary and other officers and soldiers, and for other purposes," as amended.

A message from the House of Representatives, by Mr. Clarke, their Clerk:

Mr. President: The Speaker of the House of Representatives having signed five enrolled bills, I am directed to bring them to the Senate for the signature of their President.

The House of Representatives have concurred in the amendments proposed by the Senate to the following bills, viz:

"An act for the relief of the Navy Pension Fund;"

"An act making additional appropriations for the support of Government for the year 1829;'

"And act making appropriations for the public buildings, and other purposes;"

"An act making additional appropriations for the support of the Navy of the United States, for the year 1829;"

"An act making additional appropriations for the military service of the United States, for the year 1829;" and

"An act making appropriations for building light-houses and beacons, and placing buoys, and for improving harbors, and directing surveys."

They have also concurred in the 1st, 2d, 4th, and 5th items of the amendment proposed by the Senate to the bill, entitled "An act making appropriations for the Indian Department, for the year 1829;" and have disagreed to the third and sixth items.

They do not concur in the amendment proposed by the Senate to the bill, entitled "An act making appropriations for the erection and completion of barracks and quarters, and for other purposes."

They have passed the bills from the Senate, entitled "An act for the relief of John Smith T. and Wilson P. Hunt," and "An act making provision for the payment of pensions to the widow or children of pensioners, in certain cases, and for other purposes."

They have also passed the bill from the Senate, entitled "An act to provide for the apprehension and delivery of deserters from certain foreign vessels, in the ports of the United States," and the "resolution in relation to the survey and laying out a military road in the State of Maine," with an amendment to each; in which they request the concurrence of the Senate.

The Vice-President signed the five enrolled bills last reported to have been examined, and they were delivered to the Committee, to be laid before the President of the United States.

The Senate adjourned to six o'clock in the evening.

A message from the House of Representatives, by Mr. Clarke, their Clerk:

Mr. President: The House of Representatives have concurred in the amendment of the Senate to the bill, entitled "An act making appropriations for carrying into effect treaties with certain Indian tribes, and for holding a treaty with the Potawatamies."

They do not concur in the amendment of the Senate to the bill, entitled "An act to enable the President to hold a treaty with the Winnebagoes and other Indian tribes, for the purchase of the lead mine country, and for other purposes."

They have passed bills from the Senate, of the following titles, viz: "An act for the continuation of the Cumberland road;"

An act to authorize a subscription for stock on the part of the United States, in the Louisville and Portland Canal Company;"

"An act providing for the printing and binding of 60,000 copies of the abstract of Infantry Tactics, including manoeuvres of Light Infau. and Riflemen, and for other purposes;"

"An act for the construction of the Cumberland road, westwardly of Zanesville;"

"An act making appropriations for completing certain roads, and for making examinations and surveys;"

"An act to authorize the establishment of a town, on land reserved for the use of schools, in Florida;" and

"An act authorizing the subscription of stock in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Company;" with amendments to the two last named bills, in which they request the concurrence of the Senate.

Mr. Iredell, from the Committee, reported that they had examined and found duly enrolled,

"An act for the relief of the Navy Hospital Fund;"

"An act making appropriations for the public buildings, and other purposes;"

"An act making additional appropriations for the support of Government, for the year 1829;"

"An act making additional appropriations for the support of the Navy of the United States, for the year 1829;"

"An act making additional appropriations for the military service of the United States, for the year 1829;"

The Senate proceeded to consider the amendment of the House of Representatives to the "resolution in relation to the survey and laying out a military road in the State of Maine;" and,

On motion by Mr. Holmes,

Resolved, That the Senate concur therein.

Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

The Senate proceeded to consider the third and sixth items of their amendment to the bill, entitled "An act making appropriations for the Indian Department, for the year 1829," disagreed to by the House of Representatives; and,

On motion by Mr. White,

Resolved, That the Senate recede therefrom.

Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

The Senate proceeded to consider their amendment to the bill, entitled "An act making appropriations for the erection and completion of certain barracks and quarters, and for other purposes," disagreed to by the House of Representatives; and,

On motion by Mr. Benton,

That the Senate insist on their said amendment,

It is determined in the affirmative: Yeas, 22; Nays, 16.

The Senate proceeded to consider the amendments, of the House of Representatives, to the bill, entitled "An act to authorize the establishment of a town on land reserved for the use of schools in Florida;" and,

On motion by Mr. Kane,

The Senate proceeded to consider the amendments of the House of Representatives to the bill, entitled "An act authorizing the subscription of stock in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Company;" and,

The Senate resumed the consideration of the motion of the 27th instant, to reconsider the vote of the 25th, on disagreeing to the amendments reported by the Committee on Commerce, to the bill, entitled An act making appropriations for continuing the road from Detroit to Chicago, for completing and repairing piers, for the improvement of certain harbors, and making examinations and surveys;" and agreed thereto.

The said bill was then considered as in Committee of the Whole; and the said amendments having been agreed to, the bill was reported to the Senate; and the amendments being concurred in,

On the question, "Shall the amendments be engrossed, and the bill read a third time as amended?"

It was determined in the affirmative.

The said amendments having been reported by the Committee correctly engrossed, the bill was read the third time, as amended; and

Resolved, That this bill pass with amendments.

Ordered, That the Secretary request the concurrence of the House of Representatives in the amendments.

On motion by Mr. Hendricks,

The Senate resumed, as in Committee of the Whole, the bill, entitled ، An act for the preservation and repair of the Cumberland road; and, On motion by Mr. Benton,

To amend the bill by striking out all after the enacting clause, except so much of the 8th section as makes an appropriation for repairing the Cumberland road, and to insert,

That from and after the first day of November next, the repair and preservation of the Cumberland road shall be left, and is hereby declared to be left, to the States respectively in which the same may be.

Mr. Benton called for a division of the question; and

It was first taken on striking out, and determined in the affirmative: Yeas, 35; Nays, 6.

On motion by Mr. Prince,

The yeas and nays being desired by one-fifth of the Senators present, Those who voted in the affirmative, are-Messrs.
