PREAMBLE.

WHEREAS our Remoteness from the Court of England renders

us under the Necessity of appointing some Person or other to negotiate the several Laws made in this Island for Confirmation by Royal Assent, or otherways appearing on our behalf, on many Occasions; we therefore the Deputy Governor, the Council, and Assembly of this Island, most humbly pray Your Sacred Majesty that it may be enacted, and be it, and it is hereby enacted by the Authority of the same, That the Commander in Chief, Governor, with Legisla- or President for the Time being, shall once every Year (or oftener if Mortality

Mortality shall so occasion) choose or nominate some fit Person, by and with the Consent of the Council and Assembly of this Island, to be their Agent, not only to represent their Affairs by soliciting at His Majesty's Court the Confirmation of such Laws as shall from Time to Time be transmitted for that End, but all other Matters and Things as shall at all Times be recommended by the several Persons authorized by this Act to that Purpose.

II. And for the better Direction and Management of such, who shall happen to be from Time to Time so chosen or nominated, it is hereby enacted and ordained by the Authority aforesaid, That no Agent for this Island whatsoever shall observe or take Notice of any other Orders and Directions relating to His Majesty's passing the several Laws of this Island, transmitted to him by any Person or Persons whatsoever, but such only as he shall receive from the Commander in Chief of this Island, Governor, or President for the Time being, and the Speaker of the Assembly thereof, jointly signed by them; nor observe any other Order relating to any Remonstrance, or Complaint of any Grievance, except what shall come to him from under the Hand of the Speaker for the Time being, by the Advice and Consent of the Assembly; nor observe or take Notice of any Minutes of the Council and Assembly as copied out of the Assembly Book, but such alone as shall be signed by the said Speaker of the Assembly, and attested by the Clerk pro Tempore of the same.

· III. All which Orders and Directions being duly observed and kept by such chosen Agent, he shall have and receive for his Trouble and Care (to be remitted him by the Treasurer for the Time being, out of the Publick of this Island) one hundred Pounds Sterling Money of England, besides his needful Charges and Expences reimbursed by said Treasurer, who is hereby declared to have full Power and Authority to remit the same.

VI.
