Specification of the Patent granted to HENRY BESSEMER, of Baxter House, Old Saint Pancras-road, in the county of Middlesex, Engineer, for Improvements in the Manufacture and Refining of Sugar, and in Machinery or Apparatus used in Producing a Vacuum in such Manufacture, and which last Improvements are also otherwise applicable for Exhausting and Forcing Fluids.- Sealed March 20, 1851.

To all to whom these presents shall come, &c., &c.— My said invention consists,

First, in a mode of clarifying, evaporating, and concentrating saccharine fluids in open pans or boilers of a construction differing from each other in form and arrangement so as to suit the kind of fuel to be employed, and the nature of the previous or succeeding operations which the fluid has been, or is afterwards to be subjected to, but in all of which forms of apparatus the heat for producing evaporation of the saccharine fluid is transmitted thereto, through the agency of steam generated in another comNo. 1.-VOL.
