Who, in virtue of the Full Powers, produced by them at the Congress of Vienna, found in good and due form, have agreed upon the following Articles:

ART. I. His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, having engaged conjointly with the Emperor of Austria, the Emperor of all the Russias, and the King of Prussia, to unite the means of their States to maintain, in all their integrity, the conditions of the Treaty concluded at Paris, the 30th of May, 1814, as well as the Stipulations which shall be agreed upon and signed at the Congress of Vienna, in the view of completing the dispositions of this Treaty, and to guarantee them against every attempt, and particularly against the designs of Napoleon Buonaparte; and to direct to that effect all their efforts against him and his Partizans, in order to put it out of his power in future to disturb the tranquillity of Europe and the General Peace: their Royal and Serene Highnesses, as well as the Free Towns, accede to this Alliance, and engage solemnly, to. unite the means of their respective States, with those of His Britannic Majesty, and the Sovereigns His Allies, in order thus to direct, in concert and with one accord, all their efforts to the same end.

II. The succours which their Highnesses and the Free Towns agree to furnish for the defence of the Common Cause, shall be proportioned to the population of their States. They shall become part of the 3 great Armies assembling on the Upper and Lower Rhine, and in the Kingdom of the Low Countries, according to the geogra phical position of their different States, and the arrangements which have been judged expedient.

The Contingents of the Troops, and their distribution, are set forth in the Paper annexed to the present Treaty, which shall have the same force and vigour as if it were inserted therein word for word. These Troops shall always be kept up at their full establishment, by means of the formation of a Reserve, amounting to one-half of the number of those brought into the field. The Landsturm shall be called out according to the exigency of the case, and shall not enter into the calcu lation made in the present Article and its annexed Paper: it shall serve only within the Country, and for interior defence. Each State [1814-15.] 21

shall provide for the clothing and equipment, as well as for the pay of its Troops.

III. His Majesty engages, as well in his own name, as in that of their said Majesties, not to lay down their arms without taking particularly into consideration the interests of their Royal and Serene Highnesses and also of the Free Towns, and not to allow any change to be made in the state of their Possessions, such as it is at present, or as it may be regulated by the Stipulations of the Congress, without the free and spontaneous consent of the State which such a change shall concern.

IV. Every thing relative to the subsistence, equipment, and transport, to hospitals, and all other objects necessary to support and facilitate the movements of the Troops, and the operations of the War, shall be regulated by a Particular Convention.

V. The present Treaty shall be ratified, and the Ratifications exchanged within 6 weeks, or sooner, if possible.

In faith of which, the respective Plenipotentiaries have signed it, and affixed the Seal of their Arins thereto.
