Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Rebound in full black cloth. In the 1850's, "Bleeding Kansas" was a lightening rod in the battle between pro-slavery and anti-slavery forces. The Missouri Compromise, which had permitted slavery in Missouri but not in the other territories, gave way to "popular sovereignty", under which the territories could determine for themselves whether or not to permit slavery. This led to an influx to Kansas of pro-slavery forces, and after much turmoil and bloodshed, the officials elected during this period voted to permit slavery. The abolitionists formed a separate government with a constitution that prohibited slavery, and a Congressional committee was appointed to investigate numerous allegations of fraud and violence in connection with the vote. This is the report of that committee. Includes majority report, minority report, minutes of the committee and testimony. Extra shipping may be charged at cost based on weight of book.
